Sending pillows blankets to adopted USA Military Member Afganistan? Military Members opinions advise please?

Our US adopted soldier through anysoldier.com asked for pillows & blankets, but gave no specifics as to what type is needed.

Are there any materials or types I should avoid when purchasing pillows and blankets?

Full size pillows or small pillows?

I thought we should also send some brand new zippered pillow case protectors to help keep the pillows clean - what do you think?
